Exofinger project

Participating in the second edition of the Fabrikarium, organized by MyHumanKit and Ariane Group, from October 20 to 22, 2020 in Rennes, France, was an opportunity to concretize the exchanges between HumanLab in Rennes and INRIA’s CAMIN and SED teams in Grenoble. This event consists of bringing together a multidisciplinary team around a project leader with a disability to support him/her and help him/her carry out his/her own technical assistance. Christine Azevedo (INRIA) brought together passionate INRIA colleagues to respond to the invitation of Nicolas Huchet (HumanLab Rennes) with whom she had been in contact for several years. The HumanLab of the Institut St Pierre in Palavas also joined the team.

Prior to the event, various meetings were held to prepare the meeting by gathering skills and equipment.

For three days, Inria researchers and engineers collaborated with members of the HumanLabs and Ariane Group employees to design and produce a 2-finger orthosis to enable Bastien, who has tetraplegia, to hold a pen to sign documents and grasp various objects between his thumb and fingers.

This is how the Exofinger project was born. See an Inria web article (in french).
