Dec. 13, 2007

diaconisI will talk about some of our most primitive images of random phenomina–flipping a coin, shuffling cards, rolling a roulette ball. In each, while randomness is sometimes possible, in reality the initial conditions take a lot of effort to wash out.

This is a talk aimed at a general scientific audience with many, many real examples.
